Lucy Colquhoun, Founder, ex-GB and Scotland athlete and medallist

Gutzi was born from painful experience. As an ultra runner I had real problems with what to eat during a long run, and would often find myself either feeling or being very sick. I found that I craved savoury flavours and ‘real’ food. And yet, for some reason, there was nothing readily available in an easy to carry form.

Unsurprisingly, it turns out I’m not the only person to have had problems with nutrition for sport, or to want an alternative to the glut of sweet sports products. Dozens of athletes feel the same way:

Great! Always on the look out for savoury sports foods!!!

Savoury sports food…at last! Brilliant!

Looking forward to trying the savoury produce, so much of what is available is too sweet for my liking

Really like the idea of savoury sports foods for ultras.

There is definitely a gap in the market for this.

They say necessity is the mother of invention. After spending a few months in the kitchen experimenting with different ingredients I came up with a recipe which ticked the right boxes: natural, energy-dense, easy to swallow, portable, kind on the stomach and, most importantly, tasty.

So here we are: your prayers answered. Enjoy.
